Very Short Stories: "Reach"

A dark, black and white image of an old basement, with two dim lights shining off the cobwebs on the bookshelves.
Never run upstairs...

They sat huddled in the basement, the eerie sound of he air raid siren emanating from the abandoned television in the living room above.

They knew the blast would reach them, despite being so far away. The baby began to cry as the single light flickered... and went out.

#vss365, or "Very Short Stories" began life on Twitter as an opportunity for writers to share a short story within the Twitter character limit based on a daily word prompt. The challenge is that the prompt must be included in the story itself! Anyone is welcome to join in - just search on Twitter for the hashtag, click on "latest" and you'll see the day's tweets featuring the daily prompt.
